Maximilian Heinegg

Some imagine themselves in an ocean of stars,
not basking in the impossible fortune
of soft carbon, not singing that their form
walked from the waves only by grace
to surface for the consensus,
but carving like sharks
through dim aqueous empires,
without fear or gratitude, unchallenged,
streamlined, roaming serrated ages,
the light, that ghost of our ancestral fire,
incidental, not even needed to hunt by.
