High Tide
Laurie Kolp
A week at the beach
and the carcass is kind of peeling
but here I am anyway
hiding leather in a tannery
factoring my life on sun-dried rawhide
while you bait aquatic vertebrates
and gather them in ice.
Soon enough a surge
will charge us further back
until we are neaped in erosion.
What good then will this tide be?
