Seth Jani

Maybe the sickness came
to make me tender,
to equalize a heart enchanted
by its own aloofness.
Among the river stones
the sun was no longer
a streak of gold,
a resplendent eye.
It was a hard light
and I hurt among familiar things.
The only solution was to sit inside
the pattern and be ok. Whether they
were my birds or not, beautiful wings
kept rushing by.
