Billboards
Seth Jani
In the perilous, white-apple mist
we shotgun Milwaukee’s Best,
the blowtorch of your breath
against my body,
our delinquent shadows stalking
together beneath the Chicago sun,
with its strange longing to set.
I dream of taking it hunched over
in the slow fissures of light,
with the billboards of the Midwest
turning their startled faces
and watching like horrified locals
peeking out from the seminaries
of corn.
